As we pulled up to the venue hosting Margaret and Hajir's pre-wedding dinner, a rainbow burst across the sky, ending perfectly at our destination. Aliestre Vineyards served wine and freshly roasted pig while friends and family enjoyed time together in this beautiful countryside estate.

April 5, 2025

At 2pm, we filtered into the Torre de Palma Wine Hotel's indoor event space. Master of Ceremonies Mac and Hajir's cousin Hasti led a "Persian(ish) ceremony," Aunt Hengameh read a poem by Rumi in Farsi and English, and Aunt Tina read a chapter from Death By Pastrami. Friends and family members shaved sugar onto a blanket held above Margaret and Hajir's heads, symbolizing the sweetness of their marriage.

While it was too chilly to swim, we sat poolside, sipped cocktails, and nibbled on delicious appetizers while listening to a talented Portuguese guitarist. Light rain fell, then stopped, making for beautiful smells.

Margaret's sister Liv carried the 13-month-old ring bearer on her shoulders. The flower girls spread petals on the soft dirt in the small forest. The tequila bearers offered shots to interested parties. And then the bride and groom arrived on horseback.
